Antarctica 2007

December 17, 2006 through January 8, 2007, Sherry and I traveled to Antarctica.  We flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina and spent a day in the city and seeing a Tango show in the evening.  We then flew down to the southern most city in the world; Ushuaia.  We took a bus tour through Tierra del Fuego National Park.  That evening we boarded the Clipper Adventurer.  This was our 300 foot long (home) ship with 107 passengers and a crew of 99 for the next 20 days.  It was magical from the moment we stepped on the ship.  Crossing Drake's Passage to get to Antarctica took two full days.  Once we arrived at Antarctica we would get on zodiacs and go visit the many islands and the continent itself that make up Antarctica.  When we weren't on the zodiacs going somewhere, we were listening to very interesting talks presented by the guides on the ship.  I found the history to be fascinating, especially when we would go by ship wrecks from the early 1900's.  We saw 7 species of penguins, 2 species of whales, 5 species of seals and I lost count on the birds including Albatross.  We also visited South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.  We had 30 foot seas getting to the Falklands.
